Spring 2017, we worked with the agency Maria Bcn in a proposal to develop the new identity of one of the most emblematic buildings of Barcelona: the Mapfre tower. The renovation, the new orientation towards a more international public and the technologic business world lead to this actualization. Our proposal was finally the chosen one in a tender of agencies.

 

A lively building

The proposal was drawn from a brief in which an image with several specific elements was asked for.

Connectivity, flexibility, modernity, friendliness, technology, solidity, transformation, growth and even a reference to the Olympic origin of the building.

 

We looked at the building as steaming from a single flexible line which connects all the floors of the tower. A curvy line (friendliness), which goes up from the sea level to the top of the tower (growth).

We chose a range of natural colors as an expression of life: from the blue of the sea to the color of ground in the ground floor, green of nature, and blue red and yellow for the sky. Together in a gradient, the colors symbolize the spirit of growth and change. It looks dynamic, optimistic and modern. The typography, with round shapes, gave the finishing touches to the whole. The colors also remember the Olympic rings and famous technologic companies from around the world.

 

To incorporate all of the characteristics of the new communicative style, we used the concept “vida/life”, which refers to all the activity and everything that happens in the building. A lively building.

 

A leap in time

Months later, the renovation of the building was presented and, with it, the new image and its graphics evolution.

We are very happy to have been part of the team that worked to give a new image to such an iconic building of Barcelona.
