Autumn 2012.
(Random House Mondadori) is preparing to launch the book ‘Un monstruo viene a verme’, (A Monster Calls) by Patrick Ness, with illustrations by Jim Kay. It is a novel based on a story by Siobhan Dowd, in which a monster helps a child to accept the loss of his mother.

‘Un monstruo viene a verme’ come praised by great critics and prizes such as The Red House, whose jury is made up of children.

The beginning of the journey
This is special, atypical book, and Debolsillo asks us for an online idea so that people see the book´s trailer. After reading the book and researching about what is most liked about the story and the countries where it has been published, we see that it is a story charged with powerful phrases, sentences that help in understanding and verbalising feelings.

From this point on, we propose the creation of several video capsules in which a series of characters throw out one of the truth-phrases of the book to the user. We want to create a strong atmosphere, to situate immediately in a context. In order to do this we play with the dramatic effect of black and white, with close ups, raw sound and distant music. The phrases finish with a claim that directs the user to a url: unviajealaverdad.com
Through these videos we want the potential readership to engage with the book based on an idea, a phrase that can interest them.

Windows and site
The link directs the user to a mini-site where s/he can see the book trailer, as well as all of the campaigns’ video capsules and the content of the book, information about the authors, prizes, dates and even how to buy the book. We work with a mini-site that is simple, practical, and consistent with the visual world of the book.

The book
Debolsillo launches the book on the 15th of November 2012. The videos begin to be viewed and the mini-site receives visits. For us it has been a very gratifying campaign, we have collaborated with the help of Miren Tellería in production, with Roger Pau as programmer, with some very good actors. We have also got to know, and have been thrilled by the story of Conor O’Malley.
